A word about Christian Education at AHP:
Our Christian Education goal is to create, implement, and coordinate educational and faith development opportunities for all members and friends of the church -- from infants to seniors. While we teach from a curriculum consistent with our Reformed Theology, we are a congregation that is rich with diversity with room for differing faith experiences, traditions and visions for all of its membership. We seek to create an environment that glorifies God; that teaches and inspires faith, growth and spiritual enrichment; and that manifests a supportive, welcoming, caring, nurturing setting for the AHP “family” – as well as for visiting members of the community. AHP is a member of the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area link, and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) link. AHP is handicap accessible.
If you have questions about Christian Education at AHP—please call the church office at 651-774-6028, or email us at ahp@usfamily.net.
Volunteer Teachers and Assistants, Pastor and Staff Information:
All volunteer teachers and assistants -- plus pastor and staff -- undergo a background check and
Child Protection Training. We feel that it is good stewardship to do all that we can to provide a safe
and nurturing environment for children, teens -- and vulnerable adults. Further, all volunteer teachers receive training, development, and support to teach a curriculum consistent with our Reformed Theology and faith that is appropriate for each class and its participants.
Nursery:
We have a nursery staffed during the Sunday morning Worship service throughout the year. The nursery is available for ages birth to 36 months. At the time you drop off your child at the nursery, please provide the nursery staff with any specific care instructions, including illness, allergies, and contact information in case of an emergency by completing the AHP Student Enrollment form (mandatory).
Children's Church:
Children’s Church (typically ages 3 - 10) follows the Children’s Sermon, about 15 minutes into the Sunday morning worship service. After the Children's Sermon, children go with teachers to a classroom in the education wing for their own age-appropriate, faith-building experience. AHP volunteer teachers and assistants teach Bible stories, sing songs, do crafts, play games, say prayers (and occasionally have a snack) all focused around
the Bible passage for the day. We recruit a rotation of AHP volunteer teachers and assistants
so the children have contact with multiple people in the congregation.
This Christian Education learning opportunity is optional, as any children who wish to stay in the sanctuary are certainly welcome to do so.
AHP Youth:
All youth, grades 9-12, are welcome to participate in AHP Youth group activities, which include the "Christian Education" hour, and "Mission & Ministry" that typically meets the last Sunday of the month. Other events may be scheduled throughout the year to provide youth with opportunities to interact with youth from other denominations, such as Summer Camp and Winter Camp. The Christian Education leaders are members of the congregation. Check out the "AHP Youth" web page for more information.
Confirmation:
Our confirmation program consists of attending a confirmation class lead by the pastor and/or members of the congregation, plus particiaption in a mentoring program where each youth
work one-on-one or two-on-one with an adult mentor. The program is based
on teaching them what it means to be a member of the body of Christ, that
there are responsibilities and expectations of such a privilege. The program
focuses on actively doing as well as learning the specifics of the Bible
and denominational information. They get to practice being a member before
they become one. Contact the church office for more information about confirmation.
Adult Christian Education:
We have two adult Sunday morning classes that meet weekly throughout the year, led by congregation members. These classes offer opportunities for in-depth Bible study, incorporating books and videos,as well as topical studies, all based on a Biblical perspective.
Small Adult Bible Study Groups:
We have several small groups and Bible Study groups for those who wish
to have additional time to study God’s Word outside of Sunday mornings. To find out how to get involved -- or to start a new Bible Study group -- call the church office.
